The Munich airport opened in  May 1992 and is approximately 18 miles (29Km) from the centre of Munich, and named after Franz Josef Strauss, a former Bavarian Minister President . The airport designation code is MUC. There is a good taxi service at both terminals. The S-Bahn goes direct from the airport to the main railway station the Hauptbahnhof. S-Bahn

The S-Bahn has two trains which circle Munich and pass through the main railway station, the Hauptbahnhof. The S1 travels on the north side and the S8 on the southern side. During normal hours, there is a train every 20 minutes. See the transport map located on this site.
