Munich Museums & Culture

Munich is rich in culture as you would expect from a city already more than 850 years old. Whilst the last war saw many old buildings in the centre destroyed, much survived. It is only when old photographs are viewed, can the difference be noticed. For the visitor, everything seems as it always was. The Munich Museums are world famous.

Possibly the first place to visit is the Rathaus on Marienplatz, to view the magnificent facade of the Town Hall and to see the famous quadrillion. This is a very popular sight to see and hear, get there early to locate a good place to stand. Starts on the hour at 11.am and 12.00am the “Glockenspiel” is worth the effort.

Another place to visit is the Viktualienmakt a short distance away. In the summer time the bier garten is open and the fruit and vegetable stalls have produce from around the world. Not the cheapest, but the quality is the best available.

The visit to Munich is spoilt for choice. Museums, art galleries, exhibitions, concert halls, festivals of all types.

 

Museums

The city has many museums, most to world class standards, from the Neue Pinakothek and Alte Pinakothek, Deutsches Museum, and then there is the Fish and Hunter museum, the Teddy Bear Museum, and  for the motoring enthusiast, the BMW motor Museum, plus many others.
