| Jürgen's and Sabine's wedding day was
in an area of Munich called Unterhaching. The weather was fine and as this was
my very first Bavarian wedding, I had a lot to learn, not that I understand Bayrisch (the
local dialect). As with most family get together there was lots of
photo's taken and even more talking. I have enclosed some of my favourite pictures that
show a typical Bavarian wedding and take this opportunity to wish the happy couple, all
the very best and many years of happiness together.
The Bavarian Dirndl and the Lederhosen are still worn by true Bavarians and
while the style has been updated the traditions remain very strong.
Munich is the capital of Bavaria.
During the church service a choir of local gospel singers sang a variety of
songs all in English, which was a surprise. After the service the bride and groom had an
opportunity to meet and talk with all the guests which gave me chance to take some
photos. Many of my Munich photo's are in Munich City Guide 2010
.
Jürgen works with the Munich Police force and after the service, was
given a escorted journey from the church to the reception in a local restaurant. A
tradition is that all the cars that follow the wedding couple, tie ribbons to their car
and continually sound the car horns, Jürgen and Sabine had a lot of guests, so it was
very noisy.
After a "Bucks fizz" (Champagne and orange juice) toast in the
restaurant gardens the rest of the time was spent inside. A excellent selection of
food and wine soon settled any empty stomachs. With a great live group playing a wide
range of music and creating the general entertainment the evening past all too soon. One
thing is for certain the Bavarians know how to enjoy themselves. A great wedding day for
two of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet.
