Munich has many fine museums such as
the Alte Pinakothek, The Deutsches Museum, the Residenz, and the
Pinakothek
der Moderne.
The city has its own Stadmuseum and
the Deutsches Jagd und Fischeremuseum
has the largest known collection of fishhooks. The wonderful collection of
carriages at the Schloss Nymphenburg museum should not be missed.
Alte Pinakothek (Old Picture Gallery)
Opened in 1838 the gallery rates among
the world's greatest art galleries. Originally started with a set of
paintings commissioned by Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria in the 16th
century. Today the gallery concentrates on European art from the Middle
Ages to the 18th century. German masters exhibited include
Albrecht Dürer with the The Four Apostles An unrivalled
collection of Rubens dominates the Dutch and Flemish collection with the
"Last Judgement" a centrepiece. Paintings by Raphael, Lorrian and
Poussin are on show. Address: Barerstrasse 27. U2 to Koenigsplatz, tram 18
to Pinakothek or bus 53.
Bayerisches National Museum
This collection of arts and crafts shows the real
character of the Bavarian with examples of porcelain, clocks, costumes,
Bavarian style painted furniture and many other example of Bavarian
lifestyle. Address Prinzregentenstrasse 3, U4 or 5 to Lehel, tram 20 to
Nationalmuseum or bus 53. Bus 53 links many of the famous places to be
visited
Deutsches Jagd und Fischeremuseum
The museum is housed in the former church of an old
Augustinian monastery and is packed with many stuffed animal heads from
the 17th and 18th century. The museum also houses
the worlds largest collect of fish hooks. You may also see a prime example
of the legendary zoological curiosity the Wolpertinger.
Brandhorst Museum
The brand new museum in Munich for modern Art. The
cost was put at $68 million. Here you will find works by Cy Twombly,
Picasso, Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, Gerhard Richter, Bruce Nauman and
