Peterskirche
Munich's oldest parish church was
transformed in the 17th 18th century when some of
Bavaria's finest craftsmen decorated the church. Inside are masterpieces
of religious art and a 1730, 20m high altar designed by Nikolaus Stuber.
A statue of St. Peter was carved by Erasmus Grasser in 1492. A Bavarian
tradition of preserving the bodies of saints is illustrated by the
skeleton of "Munditia" the patron saint of single women wrapped in a
shroud and holding a quill pen. Magnificent views of the city and in
particular Marienplatz can be had from the visitor area near the top of
the Renaissance tower.
Theatinerkirche
Dedicated to St. Kajetan this
mustered coloured church was finished in 1688 with the tower added in
1697.
Bürgersaalkirche
Was built in 1710 as assembly
point for the Marian fraternity
Asamkirche
This rococo building was named after
the brothers Asam 1686-1750 who built it as a private chapel, but the
people of Munich liked it so much the brothers agreed the citizens use it
as a parish church. The inside of the church is a view you are never
likely to forget
